Give Thanks for Great Employees
It’s the season for expressing gratitude, and at the Institute of Podiatric Excellence and Development (IPED), we’re encouraging all our members to take a moment to say “thank you” to your employees. Those team members without whom your office would not run efficiently can sometimes be taken for granted. Below are a few suggestions for ways to let your staff know you are thankful for all that they do for your practice and your patients.
Public Acknowledgement—be sure to thank employees personally and publicly at staff meetings for going above and beyond in their work. Just be sure it’s not the same person or persons all the time. Pay attention and search out ways each of your team members goes that extra mile.
Private Compliments—studies show that feeling respected and valued are big incentives for employees to keep giving their all. Something as simple as a “Thanks for staying late yesterday,” on a post it left on a desk, to a more tangible token of appreciation like flowers or movie passes lets employees know that their efforts don’t go unnoticed.
Financial Incentives—bonuses and the opportunities to gain monetary incentives are always appreciated. The incentives should be tied to measurable results, such as a percentage increase in gross monthly collections or a certain number of positive patient satisfaction surveys.
Time to Relax—don’t be tempted to cut out an annual holiday party or get-together in order to save money. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or extravagant, but time for your entire office to celebrate together increases a sense of ownership and allows personal relationships to grow which, in turn, results in a more cohesive and caring office.
Your employees are your practice’s most valuable asset. Don’t let this Thanksgiving season pass without taking the opportunity to show you are grateful for them.
